Johnson | 'I'm proud of the girls'

Katie Johnson has praised Wolves Women for completing another Black Country derby double over rivals West Bromwich Albion.

Dan McNamara’s side made it 10 wins in a row against the Baggies with a 2-0 victory under the Molineux lights, and defender Johnson has applauded the team for winning and keeping a clean sheet, while thanking the support of the fans inside the stadium.

On a big game at Molineux

“I’m proud of the girls, we dug in. It’s been a tough couple of weeks and we’ve had to all come together with games being called off and we’ve really done well.

“It was a big occasion for the girls being at Molineux, but I think we dealt with it really well – a clean sheet and two goals, really good from the girls.”

On waiting for her Molineux moment

“It was a big one for me. I’ve been waiting for my moment to start here for a good few years since I’ve been here and I finally got it.

“It did take me a while to get into it, but I soon got into it. Going off the back of Newcastle, the girls really dug in and it was disappointing we didn’t come away with anything from that game, but I think we took everything we did into this game, got a clean sheet, two goals and three points on the board. We’re back up to fourth now I think, so really good from the girls.”

On keeping a clean sheet

“It comes as a collective working from the back. With Morph (Anna Morphet), Emma (Cross) when she came on, Hannah (Fryer) and Bec (Thomas), I think we all really worked together.

“They were always going to cause us problems, we had to just go through those spells, drop off a little bit and match her (Delphi Cole) for her pace. Luckily, we held them off and kept a clean sheet. I’m happy about that.”

On the atmosphere and support

“Amazing from everyone, you could really hear it – especially when the song came on at the start.

“Hearing that just gave me goosebumps when I came out here and stood on the pitch. It was a really surreal moment for me, so a massive thank you to everyone who came down, especially on a Friday night.

“They really got us over the line and helped us get that clean sheet, put our bodies on the line and get those three points which is what was crucial today.”
