Fergusson | 'It's good to get some momentum and confidence'

Liv Fergusson believes Wolves Women can ‘finish the season strong’ after beating Derby 5-1 in their final home game of the season.

Fergusson broke the deadlock in the fourth minute after firing home at the back post, before Beth Merrick (2), Amber Hughes and Tammi George added their names to the scoresheet to make it seven wins in a row for the Old Gold. The forward spoke about scoring two goals in as many games, competition for places, the team scoring five goals and the task for the remaining three games.

On two goals in two games

“There were plenty of goals in the game, so being the first one really pleased me. To be on two in two, it is good to get some momentum and confidence.

“Being a forward scoring goals is important and, hopefully, I can keep a bit of a run going now.”

On competition for places

“Firstly, we have got a great squad. Everyone is fighting for their shirt, so I feel not lucky but grateful that I have got the opportunity.

“Really pleased to get the start and 90 minutes so, like I say, hopefully I can take that into the next game, but everyone has played their part this week in a three-game week, and we have a great squad, so I think that is really important.”

On failing to keep a clean sheet but scoring five goals

“Scoring goals is great; we are disappointed that we didn’t get a clean sheet, particularly from Sunday, conceding three.

“I think we were better tonight. We made better decisions at the back to not concede more but disappointed that we didn’t get the clean sheet overall, but a lot of players scoring is really good, and we will take that forward.”

On the remaining three games

“We are on seven wins on the bounce so hopefully we can finish the season strong. I am looking to contribute wherever I can.

“I scored a couple against Stourbridge, at the weekend and tonight, so hopefully we’ve got momentum as a team, and I have a bit of momentum, so hopefully we can all finish strong.”
