Nuno excited to help Hoever reach potential

Nuno Espirito Santo praised the capture of promising defender Ki-Jana Hoever from Liverpool, with the Wolves head coach please to have added a talented player with a lot of potential to his pack.

Although the Dutchman will be ineligible for the visit of Manchester City to Molineux on Monday evening, Nuno expects Hoever to add versatility to his small squad, with the 18-year-old's ability to play across the right side of defence.

On the signing of Ki-Jana Hoever

“He’s a young player. A player that I think really has potential, has talent, and it’s up to us to take the best out of him.

“First of all, he has to integrate into the squad, integrate into the dynamics that we want inside of the team.

“He’s not eligible for the match on Monday [vs Man City], but he will join us tomorrow and straight away we’ll integrate him and start working with the squad.

“Like I’ve said before, it’s a small squad and I think he can give us good options on balancing the squad, but the squad is not definitely closed, and we still need to work on that.

“I’m really looking forward to working with Ki and helping him to become a better player.”

On work still to do in the transfer market

“We still have to adjust the squad. It’s clear that we need to balance our squad better.

“We have already identified the targets and we know the players that we want to bring, and now we hope that our plan continues as we previously did.

“Jeff knows who our targets are and where we need to work on the squad.

“This is what we are trying to do. The squad still needs adjustments and we are looking at that and working on that.”

On two goals in six minutes against Sheffield United

“Every manager in the world would like to start games fast and score first. Every team, every manager has this wish, but we know that it’s hard. We did things really well, but what is important is Monday.

“It’s a new game, a new challenge, but the team is motivated to play and start building and progressing in terms of performance.

“Let’s look forward for a fast start again.”

On the challenge of Man City

“You know the quality and the talent of Man City’s squad. It’s amazing, the quality of their players, their manager, Pep, all this.

“It’s going to be hard, it’s going to be difficult, and we expect a very tough match, but we want to compete against a fantastic team.”

On doing the double over City last season

“You know that games are never the same. New things will happen. But what we look at is the quality and the way Man City does the game, the talent, the speed of the ball; all these things that we have to look for.

“We will give attention to it, but at the same time, we’ll be trying to build on our idea, looking to play our game and do things well.

“But things will never be the same. This is what we have to realise – a new and a new challenge is ahead of us.”

On how the season will pan out

“I have no idea what will happen. We’ve only just started and it’s the second game for every team, and after such a quick turnaround it’s unpredictable to guess what’s going to happen. Nobody knows.

“The Premier League is really, really tough and it will demand a lot from us.”

On maintaining the progression

“I’m confident that we’ll do. It’s not about what we did before. In these three seasons we’ve created an identity, we’ve created a way of how we play and how we operate as a group and we have to maintain these high standards that we have.

“Because a new challenge and a new cycle is ahead of us. Things will be much more difficult than they were before because all the teams are doing an improving and we have to follow up and keep on going.”
