Hoever becomes fourth summer signing

Wolves have signed exciting young defender Ki-Jana Hoever on a five-year deal from Liverpool.

The 18-year-old Dutchman was highly thought of during his two years at Anfield and now provides Nuno Espirito Santo with another option in central defence and at right-wing-back.

Having learnt his trade in his home nation with AZ and Ajax, Hoever joined the current Premier League champions in 2018 and made two first-team appearances in red.

Jurgen Klopp handed the then 16-year-old his debut at Molineux, in Wolves’ Emirates FA Cup victory over the Merseyside club back in January 2019.

A full debut followed this time last year, as Hoever marked his first start with a goal as Liverpool beat MK Dons 2-0 in the Carabao Cup.

That towering header at Stadium MK made the Dutchman Liverpool’s fourth youngster ever goalscorer, behind Ben Woodburn, Michael Owen and Jordan Rossiter.

On the capture, Wolves executive chairman Jeff Shi said: “Ki is a young player who can play both centre-back and right-back, with high potential to become a top footballer.

“He played against Wolves in the FA cup game in 2019 when he was only 16 years old, and impressed us very much.

“Ki is a talent we have bought for the long-term future, but he can also give the first team a fresh and potent option immediately. Welcome to the pack, Ki.”

At international level, Hoever has represented Holland at four separate age groups, up to under-18s, who he currently earns selection for.

A winner of the European Under-17 Championship with Holland, Hoever also impressed at the Under-17 World Cup in Brazil last autumn, where his nation finished fourth.

Quick across the ground, strong in the air and comfortable in possession, Hoever’s quality and versatility will prove invaluable inside Nuno’s squad.

Now, the youngster comes into the Wolves group and will be eligible to make his debut at the London Stadium against West Ham United next Sunday.
