Wolves’ young side acquitted themselves well against a strong Fylde team, with both Mai Butler and Natalie Widdal forcing saves from the keeper.
Striker Jade Cross came close as Charlotte Criddle played the ball through the gap between the full back and the centre half for her to run onto, but her shot was deflected by the keeper’s foot.
Then Criddle herself hit the cross bar from a free-kick on the edge of the box.
Jade Cross had another one-on-one chance, and this time the keeper parried the shot but Wolves just couldn't get on the end of it to tap in the rebound.
Then Criddle had a shot from just inside the area which the keeper pushed back out, only for Criddle to strike again, this time saved by the keeper’s legs.
Despite their best efforts Wolves could not make the breakthrough and the game finished goalless.
Assistant Manager Danny Heath said: “It was a great battling performance today against a good side. We included seven Under 18 players in the squad, with five of them starting.
“We kept a clean sheet and also created numerous chances to score, including several one on one situations which could have resulted in us winning the game.”
Wolves now have a run of three home games in close succession, hosting Blackburn Rovers next Sunday 22nd April at 2pm, Derby County on Thursday 26th April at 7.45pm and Guiseley Vixens on Sunday 29th April at 2pm. All games will be played at Hednesford Town FC. Admission £2; Concessions and Wolves season ticket holders £1.
