The Irishman slotted the ball home to put Wolves 2-1 ahead early in the second-half at St James Park following good play by trialist midfielder Kai Corbett, but Carty was disappointed not to have seen Corbett notch his second for the evening as Carty was flagged for offside in the build-up to the midfielder’s late goalbound effort.
On his first goal of the season
“Coming up against a League Two side, we always knew it was going to be a tough ask, but it went pretty well.
“We travelled down this morning, we prepared well, and I thankfully got the goal today.
“Chem [Campbell] made a good tackle in midfield and we’ve worked a lot on picking up second balls. Kai [Corbett] picked it up and slipped me through and thankfully it did hit the back of the net.”

On being the under-23s’ first-choice striker
“Coming back in pre-season, I knew it was going to be between myself and Austin [Samuels], and Austin went out on loan, so I’m the number nine now.
“I had to keep myself fit and hit the ground running when I came back, and thankfully I’ve done that so far.”
On the morale within the squad
“We’ve played with each other a lot when we were younger and coming through the Academy.
“Throughout the week we wanted to work on creating more chances for ourselves and with [Luke] Cundle, we all know what it’s like when he gets the ball, he must have his head on a swivel, so he was looking for me every time he got the ball.”
On having a fourth goal disallowed for offside
“It’s the luck of the draw, isn’t it? Some of them I think I was in and onside, but Kai got in as well and finished the chance, but on other days I’m onside.”
