Bueno looking to finish season strongly

Having been given his chance against Arsenal on Saturday evening, Hugo Bueno is determined to finish the season strongly on a personal note.

The Spaniard’s campaign has been disrupted at times due to injury, but since scoring his first senior goal against Coventry City in March, he’s featured in all six Old Gold games. The 21-year-old handled Bukayo Saka impressively on Saturday evening, and with two home games still to come this week, Bueno is hoping to make up for lost time and finish the campaign in a fit and healthy state.

On finishing the season strong

“To end the season well is really important for everyone and for me. Hopefully, I can keep having minutes to show what I can do and try to get a little bit fitter because I was cramping at the end. Keep working hard and hopefully the results will come.”

On the manager believing in the group

“We have a really young squad, especially at this part of the season, but the message is always the same – work hard, give our best and be confident, because our manager gives us a lot confidence to play and show what we can do. I think that’s key for the team and hopefully in the next five games we have left, we can show it.”

On the performance against Arsenal

“I was really, really proud of the whole team. We worked really hard to try to get a result. Unfortunately, we couldn’t do it, but we have to put it on the side and think about the next one.

“We knew it wasn’t going to be easy because we’re missing a lot of players, but we tried to stay compact, everyone together, working for each other, and I think we showed that in the whole game, especially in the first half. The late goal was a bit unlucky and we hit the post, but we played well, we tried our best and hopefully next game, with more players, we can make a big impact.”

On coming up against Saka

“We all know Saka is a really good player. I think we did alright, sometimes it’s tough to be one versus one against those players, so we try to get help from each other. I think we did really well, unlucky with the result, but we have to keep going.”
