Excited To Get Going

Weimann relishing move to Wolves

New Wolves signing Andreas Weimann says he is excited to play for his new club after joining on loan from Derby County until the end of the season.

Weimann signed for Derby on a four-year deal from Aston Villa in the summer of 2015, but is now ready for a fresh challenge having agreed the switch to Molineux.

The Austrian international forward played under Paul Lambert at Villa and revealed that the Wolves Head Coach was a key factor in him signing for the club.

“I’m just really excited to get going here,” says Weimann.

“Obviously, I know the gaffer from my time at Aston Villa and I enjoy playing under him so I’m really happy that I'm here now.

“He played a big part in me coming here.  I know how he works, I know what he wants from his players and when he was my manager at Villa, I played the best football of my career.

“The last couple of seasons didn't go as well as I wanted them to so hopefully I can get going again here.

“I want to prove a few people wrong and show what I can do - I’m hoping that this is a fresh start and I can go and score some goals again - hopefully I can start that on Saturday.

“At Aston Villa, I had a brilliant time.

“I was there for eight years and I scored a few goals for them too.

“It was nice playing for them, but now I’m at Wolves and I want to score loads of goals for Wolves.

“This is a massive club in this part of the country and even in the whole of England - it’s got a lot of history and I’ve lived in the area for nearly 10 years now so I know  what it’s like.”

Weimann has made 14 appearances for Derby this season, many of them from the substitutes bench, and has scored twice.

“I want to start as many games as I can and score as many goals as I can,” he says.

“From the club’s point of view, we want to win as many games as possible and see where it takes us.

“I’m here until the end of the season and I’m open to what happens after that.

“Hopefully, I will do well and then I’m sure we will have a talk in the summer but for now I just want to get into the team and perform.

“I haven’t spoken about the play-offs with the manager or anyone.

“In this league, if you get a run together you can close a gap so quickly and you can move up - it happened at Derby a couple of months ago where we were in the bottom three and then went on a run and went straight into the play-offs.”

He also revealed that he did have some nerves as he arrived for his first training session at Compton Park.

The 25-year-old explained that despite not knowing any of the players, he has had a warm welcome and says he is now ready to fight for his place in the team.

“I haven’t met any of the Wolves team before so when I drove in this morning, I was a little bit nervous,” he says.

“When you're walking into somewhere and you don't know anyone it’s a bit nerve-wracking.

“It’s a bit like your first day at school, I didn't know anyone - I walked into the changing room and had to introduce myself to everyone and start talking to everyone.

“All the lads have given me a good welcome and I’m looking forward to get to know everyone even better.

“Competition at a football club is always good because it spurs everyone on in training to do your best and if you train well, you're going to take it into a game on a Saturday or Tuesday.

“Hopefully I can train well and get into the team - I can play in most positions really but I think my favourite one is down the middle, but I can play on the wing or behind the striker.”

Weimann will wear squad number 63 for Wolves and he is available for selection for Saturday’s trip to Norwich.
