We Need To Prove Ourselves To The Fans

Andi Weimann believes that Wolves need to prove to the fans that they are good enough to challenge for promotion next season.

Wolves have lost only one of their last seven games and they host the league leaders, Brighton & Hove Albion on Friday (5pm).

Weimann believes that challenging yourselves against the best teams can give the team confidence to be one of the teams competing for promotion next season.

“It’s always nice to play against the best in the league and I’m sure all of the boys will be really up for it in front of our own fans to show them that we can be at that level next year,” he said.

“It gives you more confidence if you beat the bigger teams - it shows that we can do it.

“If you can beat them then it’s just about the consistency after that - you now that you can beat the top teams, you just have to do it week in, week out.

“Especially with the way we had been playing before the Bristol City game, it was really disappointing the way that we played.

“I think it was just one game to many for us because the amount of effort that we put in during the weeks before, you could see that our pressing wasn't up to what it has been - it just felt as if we were just a yard off the pace.

“Obviously the manager said that the performance wasn't good enough and we had a meeting about it, I’m sure everyone’s looking forward to putting it right against Brighton.

“Until it’s mathematically certain that we can’t go down, we don't want to jinx it and say that we are safe.

“It looks good but there are still six games for us and we don't want to lose every game, we want to win as many of them six as possible and finish the season strongly.”

Weimann featured in every game during the run in which Wolves won five games in a row prior to last weekend’s defeat to Bristol City.

The Austrian had played predominantly down the middle during those games until an injury to Helder Costa meant that he was forced to play on the right wing.

Although he says that he is willing to play in any position, Weimann believes that he has proven that his best position is as a central striker.

“The last month was pretty good for me - I really enjoy playing through the middle, I’ve got a couple of goals and couple of assists,” he continued.

“Unfortunately, Helder Costa got injured before the Notts Forest game so I moved back on the wing.

“I don't mind playing wide but I think that everyone has seen that my best position is through the middle and I like to think I have shown that.

“I’m confident that I’m a goal scorer and I can take my chances if I get them.”
