On a night when respective keepers Will Norris and Claudio Bravo were on top form, 90 minutes plus extra time couldn’t yield a winner, with Wolves arguably creating the better chances from open play.
But it was City who prevailed 4-1 on penalties, albeit with Wolves becoming the first side to stop them scoring this season and also denying them a club record 12th successive win within the 90 minutes.
“I am proud of the boys and I am proud of the fans – my first words go to them,” said Nuno.
“There were 6,200 shouting and signing for Wolves all through the game.
“It was too bad they couldn't celebrate but it gives us hope for the future that together we are stronger."
“It (the support) was a big help for the boys to keep working hard and sticking to the plan.
“We knew we were going to face a fantastic team.
“Fantastic players, fantastic coach, fantastic atmosphere.
“We had to be humble enough to understand that we had to try and control our opposition’s strengths before we could put ours on the pitch.
“The first half was about that.
“We had to defend and weren’t able to get out too often as Man City were pressing us very high.
“In the second half we played our football when it was the right time to do it and then is when our clear chances came.”
Bright Enobakhare was a regular thorn in the City defence, missing only a finishing touch, and Nuno is confident there is much more to come from the talented young frontman.
"Bright has to be proud of himself, being here and having these chances,” the Head Coach explained.
“It's a moment for him to grow and know in the future he's going to have it and improve to transform those chances into goals.”
And Nuno was also pleased to see so many impressive displays from players keen to stake a claim over the coming weeks, acknowledging he is going to need everyone available to him if Wolves are to be successful.
"From the beginning of the season we knew the squad was taking care of this competition,” he said.
“Players who played today weren't in the starting XI for the Championship.
"It's about having a squad strong enough for the challenges we have.
"I always say it's about the squad, then the team, then the player.
“Each player has given me positive signs to consider other options in the future, it's good.
“They have demonstrated by their individual performances that they are ready to help the team.”
Wolves then exit the Caraboa Cup without conceding a goal in regulation in any of their four ties.
But attention now will move immediately to Saturday’s testing trip in the Sky Bet Championship to QPR (3pm).
“At the end of the day we must take the positives from the night,” added Nuno.
"We did a fantastic competition, won at Southampton, fought against Yeovil and Bristol Rovers and tonight. But it's over. Finished.
“Tomorrow is another war – and now we focus on QPR.
“That is going to be another difficult game and we will need everyone to be ready.”
