Neves knew where to put the ball before receiving it

Ruben Neves says he knew where he was going to put the ball before Joao Moutinho even made the pass for Wolves’ opening goal on Sunday.

The midfielder, sat on the edge of the Aston Villa penalty area, spotted a gap and curled Moutinho’s pass home brilliantly to give Wolves the lead on Sunday. It was an advantage Raul Jimenez extended late on, as the hosts secured three big and deserved points at Molineux.

On his goal

“To be honest, I saw the space, I told Moutinho to give me the ball and I thought before the shot where to put the ball, fortunately I scored, but it was an unbelievable game for our team, I think we deserved the win.”

On a big win

“It was a really tough game, but a big win for us. It was a good start for us, I think we should end the first-half with more goals, but we controlled all the game.

“The last 15 minutes we dropped a little bit, it’s impossible to keep working as we did all of the game, but the team was unbelievable. It was a fantastic game and I’m really proud of the team.”

On the crucial second

“We knew that they were going to attack, we know how strong we are on our counter attack and we did it well again. Congratulations to all of the team and all the fans – unbelievable atmosphere and an unbelievable game.

“It was important to end the game with a win and now, after the international weekend, we’ll come back stronger.”
