Returning internationals in good spirits, says Nuno

While pleased to see his players getting minutes for their national teams last weekend, the reaction upon their return to Compton Park on Thursday has impressed Nuno.

The head coach watched ten members of his squad depart for international duty following the win over Crystal Palace, but each one of them has returned fit and raring to go.

Nuno had a full squad training in good spirits ahead of Saturday’s Watford test and was pleased with the attitude his returning players have brought to the Wolves camp.

“It’s fantastic when a player does well for the national team and returns motivated, and we have to get them back in the shape, back in the tasks of our team and it takes one day,” he said.

“When they return we have to analyse what’s happened with their national teams. The most important is they come back willing to run and fight for each ball like we do.

“When the players go to their national teams, every manager has the same feelings. First, they wish for the best, that every player gets minutes for their national teams and has a good performance. The other aspect is that they return healthy and I’m happy because everybody came back OK.”

Wolves have set a Premier League record for unchanged starting line-ups at the start of the season, with the statistic currently at eight, but Nuno insists the whole squad is making it possible.

“The strength of the squad is what allows you to pick a strong 11, everybody knows there are no substitutes, but players waiting for the moment. It’s about how you wait and prepare for your opportunity to make a statement.

“What we planned was how we wanted the team to perform. We took real care and worked real hard on that aspect. Who is going to be involved is a decision we make game after game.

“The way the boys have been working allowed us to see the team is improving, the expectations don’t change, now we think about Saturday – the table doesn’t mean anything.”

Now unbeaten in six matches, Wolves take on Watford at Molineux but after the Hornets made a perfect start to the Premier League season after four matches, Nuno knows the challenge ahead of his side.

“We know it’s going to be a tough game. Watford are a very good team, everybody knows how they started the competition, how well they did.

“They have a good manager and a good group of players who have been at the club for some years now. I hope our fans enjoy it.”
