Jota wants Wolves to keep momentum going at Palace

Diogo Jota is hoping Wolves can continue their positive start to their Premier League campaign at Crystal Palace this weekend before the upcoming international break.

The forward has been involved from the beginning of every league match this season as Nuno Espirito Santo has named the same starting 11 in all seven games.

But Jota is not surprised Wolves have taken well to the English top flight, saying: “We know our value, we know we can trust each other, and last season we played against Premier League teams and played well. Of course, it’s new for us but I know we as a team can always do better, even though we are doing well at the moment.

“I don’t think the settled team is a problem. If the manager thinks he can change two or three players it will be the same. Mainly when I’m playing as a winger with the same left back, midfielder and striker we can build routines, but if it changes I don’t think it would be a problem.

“We have a good team, and while we’re on the pitch we try our best, trying to beat defenders. When the subs come on they can come on with maximum power, create goals and assists and make it harder for the defenders.”

Despite the great start to the Premier League season, Jota – who has been selected in the Portuguese under-21 squad to face Liechtenstein and Bosnia and Herzegovina next week – is expecting a tough test as Wolves travel to Selhurst Park on Saturday.

“We know that Crystal Palace at their home is a very hard stadium to play at, and it has a very good atmosphere,” he said. “But they lost their last game, so it will be one more thing we have to fight against because they will want to get back to winning.

“With the international break next, everyone will want to win. When players come back from playing for their countries they can build on the win. Crystal Palace will want the same, and as they are playing at home it will be very hard for us.”
