Keep It Going

Lee Evans on the start to Wolves' season

Lee Evans is aiming to keep his place in the Wolves side – and help the team maintain their unbeaten run – amid the typically testing start to the Sky Bet Championship season.

With two EFL Cup ties thrown in, Wolves are just past halfway of a spell of seven games in three weeks, and found it difficult to breach stubborn Ipswich resistance in Tuesday night’s goalless draw at Molineux.

But Evans, who is enjoying life back in the Wolves team after a successful loan spell with Bradford City last season, believes the unbeaten run so far has laid some positive foundations for what lies ahead.

“Since the gaffer has come in, apart from the first half at Rotherham we have played some really good football and attacked well,” says Evans.

“The attacking players like Jon (Dadi Bodvarsson) and Joao have looked to entertain the fans.

“It was frustrating they couldn’t do that against Ipswich but we have another big game on Saturday and are still unbeaten which is good.

“We know how tough it is to do that in the Championship, and what a tough league it is, so we want to keep it going for as long as possible.

“For me, I’m thankful the gaffer came in and played me in the first game and then I have managed to stay in the team.

“I am enjoying my run and hopefully can keep it going.

“I think my game has come on thanks to my time at Bradford, and I just need to put in the performances for Wolves.

“My role from the gaffer here is to be disciplined and sit in front of the back four.

“I was desperate to get in the team and am more than happy to accept that role.

“It is something I did at Bradford quite a few times, and means I can try and get on the ball a lot and keep things ticking over.”

On the game itself Evans admits Wolves were always expecting an uncompromising test against an Ipswich side who have been there or thereabouts in the promotion race for each of the last two seasons.

“It was a frustrating night but Ipswich is always a tough game,” he added.

“Personally, every time I have played against them I have found it a hard-fought game.

“We knew what they would be about and they came with a gameplan and carried it out well to get a point.

“They are a completely different team to Reading and we always knew it would be a different game to the Saturday.

“We know we can play a lot better than we did – but at the end of the day it is another point on the board.”
