Away From the Action | Jonny

Spanish full-back Jonny discusses life Away From the Action at Molineux and Compton Park, exploring how he keeps relaxed and some of his favourite activities.

What do you like to do away from football?
I like to spend my time with my kids, of course. Every time I’m not here, I’m playing with them, and I like to spend time with my wife, my dogs. All the normal things that people like to do.

Do you watch football outside of Wolves?
I don’t watch too much football. I spend a lot of my days in training, so when I go home I prefer spending my time with my family. But when I’m travelling with the team and I’m in the bus, I will see the games. Maybe I’ll only see one or two.

Are there any other sports you like to play?
I like to play padel, but it’s more for when I’m on holidays. There are not many chances to play it around here, so I will play when I go on holiday. I also like to play futsal and a lot of other sports really, but again, I usually only play them on holidays.

Is there one sport or activity you wish you could try?
Maybe I would like to try jumping out of a plane, but I don’t think I have the balls for it! I would like to try it, but it’s too scary for me. I would also like to try maybe something in the snow. Skiing or snowboarding I like it, but it’s too difficult to do it a lot living here.

Are you quite active during your downtime?
I like to keep fit and I’ll go on walks and go out on my bike with my family, I also go on walks with the dogs. I don’t like to spend too much time inside, so we spend a lot of time outside as a family.

Where do you like to visit during time off?
It depends on how many days we have off. If we have a lot of time we’ll go home to see our family, but if it’s only one or two days then me and my wife will take our kids out to one of the theme parks we have here in England, or maybe we’ll go and explore a new place here. There are a lot of nice places we like to visit here.

Which teammates would be the best and worst to spend downtime with?
I spend a lot of time with Raul [Jimenez] and we will travel sometimes together and our families will spend time together as well. We both have young kids around the same age and they all get on really well together and it’s easy for them to play together too.

Do you spend time with your teammates away from Compton?
It depends how busy we are. Sometimes we will go out together for dinner after training. We would go for a meal or go to each other’s houses, maybe with Raul more than others.

Is there a specific restaurant or café that you like to visit?
I’ve spent too much time in Fiume! At least one day every week I try to go out with my wife for some lunch, and then when we go out for dinner, it’s usually with my whole family, friends or teammates.

How much have you explored Wolverhampton?
When I have time, I’m always going out with the kids and my wife and we’ve seen a lot of Wolverhampton in the four years we’ve been here now. We go to other places around England as well, but when I only have a small time, I will take my dog for walks around Wolverhampton or take my kids to the parks near where I live, and it’s really nice place.
