Vicky Wright joined the presenting duo for a special edition of the regular official Wolves podcast and shared some never before heard stories of her father’s career, which was spent entirely at Molineux, where his statue now stands on Waterloo Road.
Recorded prior to the weekend, the Wolves Weekly show provides an incredible insight into Wright’s time at Molineux, shared by someone who lived through the era, and is preparing for the latest stage show ‘The Billy Wright Story’.
On the episode, Vicky shares her first memories of her father, as she provided his plus one at various Wolves events, where she felt “like royalty”, given the unbreakable link between her father and the football club.
Stories shared on the show include the unique tale of how Wright learned he’d become England captain on a bus, the night he danced with Queen Elizabeth II and how he was the “heartthrob” of Wolverhampton.
The full 35-minute episode, packed with fascinating stories, can be enjoyed in full on Wolves Radio below.
Having recollected and researched her father’s story for a 25th birthday present for her daughter, through footage, photos and clippings, Vicky transformed her work into a live show, which started in 2019 and returns this autumn.
The show, which combines the human and professional aspect of the legend’s life, heads to the Price of Wales Theatre in Cannock on Thursday 20th October and tickets are available here.
