Wolves Women set for Black Country derby

Wolves Women will face West Bromwich Albion this evening as the first Black Country derby of the season takes place at Castlecroft.

Having originally been scheduled to be played away, the fixture has been reversed and is now taking place at the home of Wolves Women, the CKW Stadium, from 7.45pm this evening.

Dan McNamara’s new-look team hit the ground running in tier three having been promoted to the FAWNL Northern Premier Division with thoroughly deserved victories over Middlesbrough and Derby County to kick off their season.

After an opening-day 2-0 home win against Boro in a game that was totally dominated by Wolves, Sunday’s 1-0 success at Derby was a much tighter contest but ended in an arguably more impressive victory against McNamara's favourites for the league title.

“It’s been a great start for us,” said delighted manager McNamara. “When the fixtures came out and we looked at them, we could see we had some really tough games facing us early on, but the girls have applied themselves brilliantly."

Wolves aim to make it three wins on the bounce as they host local rivals West Brom at Casltecroft this evening and Wolves season ticket holders can watch the match for free by producing their season ticket smartcards on the gate.

For non-season ticket holders, admission is priced at £4 for adults, £2 for concessions and it's free for under-16s. Please note, entry to the stadium is cash only.

"The games come thick and fast in this league and they are all quality opposition," McNamara added, "but the fact it’s a Black Country derby adds to it.

“I hope there is a really healthy crowd there because we are looking forward to it."
