It was a steady start with both teams trying to gain momentum in the early exchanges, but it was Cross who had the first real chance for Wolves, but she could not direct her effort on target.

Billie Haynes also caused havoc down the left, which almost resulted in a goal mid-way through the half. Her crosses set up multiple chances, but the Long Eaton keeper did well to keep the visitors at bay.

In the second half Wolves started much the better team and it was the visitors who scored the opening goal only five minutes in. A scramble in the box gave Cross the opportunity to slot the ball into the back of the net and finally give Wolves the breakthrough they deserved.

Dan McNamara’s side came close to a second just minutes later, but Tammi George’s header just went wide from a corner. The Wolves defence then stood firm to see out the rest of the game and confirm the win.

MOMENT OF THE MATCH

Jade Cross’s goal broke the deadlock for Wolves and proved to be the winner as they saw out the 1-0 victory.

QUOTES

Manager Dan McNamara was pleased with his side earning the three points in difficult conditions. He said: “It was a tough one today; it’s obviously a difficult place to come.

“We said at half time we are going to have to find a little bit of quality to break them down and I think we did in the end, but from then on in it was just a battle and a slog on a difficult pitch with a difficult wind in our face, but I’m proud of the girls.”
