Jade Cross grabbed herself a goal in between two strikes from the home side but it wasn’t enough for Wolves who fell to defeat.

In what was a fairly even contest, both sides had chances to open the scoring early on but to no avail. Cross and Billie Haynes went closest for the visitors but were unable to break the deadlock.

Bedworth then took the lead from a corner, which had come from a good save from Katie Clarke. The ball fell in the area and was bundled in by Alice Belcher to put the home side in front.

Both teams continued to trade shot-for-shot and Wolves were finally able to find a breakthrough of their own. Andrea Barnett’s mazy dribble ended with her laying the ball off to Cross, who fired across the Bedworth goalkeeper and into the back of the net, right on the stroke of half-time.

Wolves started the second half the better of the two teams and had chances to put themselves in front. Lowri Walker and Cross again had chances but couldn’t make them count.

Bedworth then had a chance to retake the lead from the penalty spot. Chloe Williams brought down a Bedworth player in the box but the resulting penalty was saved fantastically by Clarke in the Wolves goal.

The visitors looked like they were going to get at least a point until a late free kick into the box fell to Kirsty Farnsworth who slotted home to give Bedworth all three points.

Katie Clarke’s penalty save at 1-1 looked like it might be enough to help Wolves get something from the game, but sadly it wasn’t to be. However, it was big moment at an important part of the game and Wolves will definitely feel hard done by that they were unable to take at least a point.

Wolves manager Dan McNamara was disappointed with the manner of his side’s defeat.

He said: "It’s difficult to take a last-minute goal. We really lacked quality in the final third today and we’ve paid the ultimate price.

"The girls are hurting and I’m hurting at the minute, it’s a difficult one to take. We just have to bounce back.’’

Next up for Wolves is a trip to Kidderminster Harriers Ladies in the Women’s FA Cup next Sunday 11th November with a 2pm kick-off.
