Frustrating Defeat

Second Loss of Season for Wolves Ladies

Long Eaton United Ladies 1 (Badach 44)

Wolves Women 0

After beating Long Eaton Ladies 1-0 at home last Sunday, Wolves were hoping to repeat their success in the reverse fixture, but despite their best efforts, it was not to be and they fell to only their second defeat of the season at Grange Park.

Despite a dominant start from Wolves, they failed to convert their chances, with several players coming close but unable to make the breakthrough.

Long Eaton made them pay in the 44th minute after a twenty yard shot from Portia Badach went past Gardner in the Wolves goal to give the home side the lead at the break.

Wolves put on the pressure in the second half, but Long Eaton held firm, working hard in defence against a strong Wolves side. It made for an entertaining game, but left Wolves frustrated.

Manager Tim Dudding said: “Football is a funny game. We had complete domination, 18 attempts on goal, commitment to the very end, but no three points. Lesson learned.”

Captain Anna Perks said: “I’m absolutely gutted after today’s game. We gave everything, but it just wasn’t our day. Roll on next week!”

Wolves now have two home games in quick succession. This Sunday 23rd April they entertain Rotherham United at 2pm, before a top of the table clash under floodlights against league-leaders Loughborough Foxes at 8pm on Wednesday 26th April. Both games will be played at Hednesford Town FC. Admission is £2; concessions £1.

TEAM: Gardner, E.Cross, Butler, Widdal, Anslow, Perks (C), Quick, Berry (McQuilkin), Whetton, Bragan (Moran), J.Cross. SUBS: Hewitt, Kelly, Davies, Glenny.
