Palmer hat-trick extends five-star Wolves' league lead

Solihull Moors Women 0 Wolves Women 5 (Jones 6, Palmer 21, 81 & 88, Walker 33)

Wolves Women made it eight consecutive wins as a Jamila Palmer hat-trick sent them on their way to a 5-0 victory over Solihull Moors Women.

Palmer’s hat-trick, along with goals from Courtney Jones and Lowri Walker, ensured that the girls stayed top of the National League Division One Midlands table.

Wolves went ahead after six minutes when midfielder Jones unleashed a rocket from 30-yards out. The effort wrong-footed Solihull keeper Francesca Vitale and gave the away side the perfect start.

They soon doubled their advantage from the penalty spot after Walker was brought down. Palmer stepped up and powered her effort past the keeper, but minutes later, her second spot-kick was saved by Vitale.

Walker made it three shortly after the half an hour mark with a powerful drive into the bottom corner.

It took Wolves until the 81st minute to get their fourth of the afternoon when Palmer grabbed her second. She managed to flick a low cross past the keeper to secure all but secure the points.

Palmer then secured her hat-trick and got Wolves a fifth of the afternoon. Jade Cross started a quick counter-attack and fed the ball to Palmer who fired past the keeper.

MOMENT OF THE MATCH

Jamila Palmer’s third goal to complete her hat-trick was the highlight in this match. After missing a penalty at 2-0, the forward was at the forefront of every attack and got her just rewards.

REACTION

Midfielder Shannie Jennings was pleased with the result and the team’s game management throughout.

She said: “I’m happy with 5-0 win and a clean sheet, it keeps us top of the table. I think it’s just game management throughout the game to go on in the second-half and still not concede. We created two good chances in the second-half to secure the win.

“Our aim is to get three points each week and to score more and more goals is just a bonus.”

COMING UP

Next up for Wolves is a trip to Sutton Coldfield Town in the SSE Women’s FA Cup on Sunday 27th October. They return to league action on 10th November with a home game against Long Eaton United.
