Wolves dominated the game from start to finish as they returned to winning ways, with additional goals coming from Chloe Williams, Billie Haines and a brace from Jess Jennings.

Eight minutes in saw Wolves claim the first goal. Cross broke down the defence before beating the keeper to put the ball into the back of the net.

Wolves continued to pressure Burton before Cross fired the ball home, doubling the lead with a powerful effort into the top left corner.

Just five minutes later, Burton’s defence was opened up, allowing Cross to perfectly time a ball to Williams who was able to control it well before slotting past the keeper.

A defensive error from Burton enabled Cross to take full advantage yet again and complete her hat-trick increasing Wolves’ lead.

Wolves went into the second half looking to continue their domination with increasing amounts of pressure. Cross increased the score line mid-way through the second period, skimming through the defence before going one-on-one with the keeper, she fired it into the bottom left corner.

However, five goals were not enough for Jennings, who then went on to lob the keeper making it six for the home side.

Jennings collected the ball to make a great run before beating the keeper for the second time, slotting the ball nicely into the back of the net.

The final goal of the game came from substitute Haines who spotted the holes in Burton’s defence to add her name to the scoresheet and round off an impressive win.

MOMENT OF THE MATCH

Jade Cross’s powerful effort to claim her second goal was the pivotal point in the game which appeared to reveal the dominance that Wolves had.

QUOTES

Manager Dan McNamara was delighted with the result. He said: “I thought we were fantastic from the start. We came out strong and built on it from there.

“The way we moved with the ball was a strength. Burton sat in and we had to be good with the ball; the first goal came from a lovely one-two in the centre of the field and obviously Jade [Cross] was clinical at the other end.”
