Dongda He was pleased to have shown his abilities as he put in a match-winning performance against Leamington in the Birmingham Senior Cup to secure Wolves’ place in the semi-finals.
The forward opened his under-23 account with a brilliant strike with just over 20 minutes gone, as he took players on left and right before firing an unstoppable shot into the top corner, before setting up Rafa Nya for Wolves’ second, and He is hoping his stand out display will lead to greater game time on the pitch in gold and black.
On reaching the semi-finals
“I thought the team did very well. In the first-half we were still getting used to the tempo, but in the second-half we did a lot better and we were winning more first balls and second balls.
“It was very physical, especially going up against men in their twenties and thirties with a lot more experience than us, but it was a good game.”
On his first goal for the under-23s
“Enzo passed me the ball down wide and I thought I’ll take this guy on, took another guy on, and I could hear them down on the bench saying ‘shoot’ everyone was saying ‘shoot’, so I had a shot and luckily it went where I wanted it to go.
“As soon as I cut in, I thought it was time to take the shot, so I took the shot and luckily it went in and went where I wanted it to go.
“My assist was something we’ve practiced in training quite a lot of times, just crossing the balls into the right areas and that was one of the examples.
“It was a great feeling, as this season I’ve not been getting a lot of match time, but to start this game and contribute with a goal and an assist, it’s a wonderful feeling.”
On showing what he’s capable of
“I just want to train well and hopefully prove to the coaches what I’m capable of doing, hopefully get more game time and help the team.
“I’m focusing on next week now, because we’ve got a lot of games coming up – three in the next nine days – so everyone is focusing on them.
“Being in the semi-final is a good chance to get a trophy, but we’ve got to train well, recover well and focus on our next game.”
