Wolves vs Leeds | U23 Match preview

Wolves under-23s will aim to get back to the top of Premier League Cup Group H when they face basement club Leeds United on Friday afternoon, with the game free to view worldwide via Wolves TV and the Wolves App.

James Collins’ team are heading into this evening’s tie off the back of a comprehensive 6-0 win over Tividale in the Birmingham Senior Cup and are currently unbeaten in their PL Cup campaign with two wins from their two matches, following a pair of 2-1 victories over Birmingham City and Derby.

Wolves were due to be playing a top-of-the-table clash with the Rams on Monday, however, that game was postponed, but Collins’ young side could go back to the group summit with three points against a Leeds side which currently sit bottom of the table with one point from their three fixtures so far in the competition.

WHAT THE BOSS THINKS

On catching up on Premier League Cup fixtures

“It was a shame that the PL Cup game against Derby got called off at late notice on Monday. Luckily we hadn’t set off at that point, but we were well prepared for the match. Fortunately, we’ve got another game just four days later, so we’ve been hard at work this week preparing for Leeds as we want to do well in this competition.

“Our league form has obviously been disappointing, but we take all our games seriously and we want to go as far as we can in all of the competitions we are in, including the Premier League Cup.”

On approach to facing Leeds

“From my time at Crewe we played many games against Leeds’ under-23s, so I know their team very well, but they play in a very way to their first-team.

“We know what to expect from them in terms of their style of football, but in under-23 football, you never know what players the opposition might put out against you.

“As their first-team haven’t got an FA Cup or league game this weekend, they might decide to put a couple of their younger senior players into the team, so you have to be prepared for any situation.”
