Winning start for Kennedy

Derby County 1 (Bennett 55) Wolves 2 (Ashley-Seal 12 & 39)

Mark Kennedy enjoyed a winning start to life as Wolves under-23s caretaker manager thanks to Benny Ashley-Seal’s brace at Derby County.

The in-form striker made it six goals in four matches at Pride Park, as Wolves began their Premier League Cup campaign with three points.

It took Ashley-Seal just 12 minutes to get off the mark in Derbyshire, as he met Elliot Watt’s inviting delivery with a brilliant header into the corner.

That goal settled any possible nerves for Kennedy, who replaced the departing Rob Edwards last week, and it wasn’t long before his side extended their lead.

Six minutes before the break a deep free-kick was headed across goal by Callum Thompson and Ashley-Seal was on hand again to poke the ball over the line.

After the interval Derby pulled themselves back into contention as Mason Bennett curled past Andreas Sondergaard, but Wolves remained unflustered.

Wolves kept in control and before time was up Oskar Buur stung the palms of Rams stopper Henrich Ravas, as the men in old gold enjoyed a winning start in the Premier League Cup.
