Hat-trick hero Ashley-Seal: "It's about time I scored!"

Hat-trick hero Benny Ashley-Seal was delighted to have helped Wolves under-21s to victory in their opening Leasing.com Trophy match against Carlisle United on Tuesday night.

The striker, who hadn’t scored yet this season and missed the recent under-23 Premier League 2 fixtures through illness, was back with a bang as he netted three times on his return to the side and he was pleased to have helped his team get off to a brilliant start in the competition.

On victory over Carlisle

“I’m obviously delighted for the boys to get the three points and to score a hat-trick is just the icing on the cake.

“It’s about time I scored! Last season I was quite clinical and I wanted to bring it into this season, but I’ve just been warming up and getting started to go again.

“The first of the three was probably my favourite. I linked up with Austin [Samuels] and made a good finish. Alongside Elliot [Watt], we train on that in training and we just had to bring it to the game and thankfully we did.

“It was a big performance and now we’ve got to do it again against Morecambe in the next game – just go again.”

On the challenge of the Leasing.com Trophy

“The competition is good, it provides a different test against a league team and it’s not like our usual under-23s game, it’s more physical, you have to win more headers.

“It’s a different type of game for me, it’s more physical, getting in the air, winning the second balls for myself, so it’s a different challenge but it’s a good test.”

On preparing for PL2 clash with Southampton

“It’s been great to get back out on the pitch. I’ve been ill for weeks so getting back into it is a good feeling and to get a hat-trick is even better, but we’ve got to go again.

“We’ve got another big game on Friday against Southampton. The boys have done a good job since I’ve been away and I’ve got to get back into the team and continue to help the boys get the win and get the three points.”
