Mayounga completes Wolves move

Wolves have completed the signing of Cyriaque Mayounga to bolster their under-23 group.

The left-back joins from Ligue 1 side Lyon, where he progressed through the Academy system.

Mayounga, 18, has agreed a two-year-old deal at Molineux and will join Rob Edwards’ group as they prepare for the new campaign.

The youngster arrives with international pedigree, having become the youngest ever Central African Republic player when he featured in their friendly with Algeria in 2017.

On the signing, Wolves sporting director Kevin Thelwell said: “We’re doing quite a lot of work with the under-23s in preparation for what is going to be a very tough season for them.

“We wanted to bring some strength in depth to the group and Cyriaque is certainly going to bring that.

“He came in on trial after being at Lyon for a period of his youth career and did really well. He impressed Scott, Rob and the rest of the coaching team, and looks like a good addition.”

After agreeing terms, Mayounga said: “I’m very happy and proud to join Wolves. It’s a new chapter for my career. Wolves are one of the most ambitious clubs in the Premier League and I’ll do my best to be a part of this journey.

“The first contact with the club gave me the impression that I’m home. The switch from France to England wasn’t tough for me because the facilities show the ambition of the club.

“I’m very excited to join. Unfortunately, I have an injury, but it’s nothing that will stop me getting back as soon as possible. I’m excited to meet my teammates and begin.”

He could make his debut for Wolves under-23s when they open their Premier League 2 Division 1 account at Brighton & Hove Albion on Monday.
