Fixtures released for newly-promoted under-23s

The fixtures for Wolves under-23’s first season in the top flight of development football have been revealed.

Following their promotion last season, Rob Edwards’ side will compete in Premier League 2 Division 1 for 2019/20, against the best youth teams in the country.

The 2018/19 Division 2 champions will begin their league campaign on Monday 12th August with a trip to the south east to take on Brighton and Hove Albion at Crawley’s People’s Pension Stadium.

A return to this season’s ‘home’ venue of AFC Telford United’s New Bucks Head follows the subsequent Monday evening when Wolves host Everton on 19th August.

Wolves will head to Manchester City’s football academy on Saturday 14th September before a home tie with Arsenal the following week. Edwards’ men will also entertain back-to-back fixtures with Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur in October, while facing home and away ties with Blackburn Rovers, Leicester City, Southampton and Derby County throughout the league campaign.

The under-23s’ final three fixtures of 2019/20 will include a game against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on 3rd April, a home tie against Manchester City on 17th April and the final match of the season away to Arsenal on 1st May.

Under-23 head coach Rob Edwards said: "We are really looking forwards to getting our first season in Premier League 2 Division 1 underway following our promotion back in April.

"To compete against the other top development teams in the country is reward for all the hard work of the players and staff during what was a brilliant Division 2 campaign last season.

"It’s going to be a tough year for the under-23s as our games programme is expanded to four competitions, but we all can’t wait to get started."

In addition to the Premier League 2 fixtures, the under-23s will also be competing in the EFL Trophy, the Premier League Cup and the Premier League International Cup, but please note, all fixtures are subject to change.
