Derby County vs Wolves | U23 Match preview

Wolves under-23s travel to Pride Park on Sunday to battle it out with Derby County for the chance to reach the quarter-finals of the Premier League Cup.

Rob Edwards’ side, who are riding high at the top of Premier League 2 Division 2, were unbeaten throughout the group stages of the cup until a much-changed line-up fell to a 2-0 defeat at home to Swansea, pushing Wolves down to second place in the Group E table.

Division 1 outfit Derby are currently third in the top-flight of under-23 football, and they also suffered just a single defeat in their PL Cup group round – against Aston Villa – but topped the Group F table to set up this afternoon’s clash.

WHAT THE BOSS THINKS

On the Premier League Cup

“It’s another game this weekend, this time in the last 16 of the Premier League Cup against Derby at Pride Park, so we’re looking forwards to that.

“There are not too many games left now, so we have to make every opportunity count.

On Derby preparations

“We’ve had a good week of training, recovered over the past couple of days, helped the first-team for when they needed players for training, and prepared for Derby, which will be another good game.

“We will approach it in the same way, we won’t change and I’m sure Derby will be the same. It’s another opportunity to play at a really good ground, on a great pitch, and perform.

“We’re looking forward to it.”
