Wolves vs Oxford United | U23 Match preview

It’s a Molineux return for Wolves under-23s tonight as they attempt to seal their place in the knockout stages of the Premier League Cup.

Rob Edwards’ side are currently unbeaten in the competition, sitting top of the Group E table with eight points from their opening four games – knowing just a single point against third placed Oxford United would secure passage into the last 16 of the cup.

Wolves and Oxford ended up all square in their previous clash in December, drawing 1-1 at Meadow View Park in Thame, with Carlos Heredia scoring a late equaliser for the visitors.

WHAT THE BOSS THINKS

On possibility of making the last 16

“We know a point will be enough for us to qualify for the next round as Oxford are a point behind us and would have already played all their matches so wouldn’t be able to catch us.

“Although a point will get us through, it’s not as if we’ll be going for that. We are in the box seat, but we need to do the business ourselves.

“With the right attitude, the right commitment and if we do what we do, and do it well, then at Molineux on a nice, big pitch, we can cause them problems.”

On Oxford

“We’re looking forward to the challenge. The performance from the players was really good last time, so first of all could we get a good performance and then try to win the game.

“But Oxford will be on a real high after beating Hull and will be looking to beat us to give themselves the best chance of qualifying as well.”

On playing at Molineux

“It’s a great opportunity to play at the ground.

“The last game against Manchester United was a really good event, everyone organised it really well and it will be great if we could have similar support from the Wolves fans once again on Friday night.”
