Owen Farmer was first and foremost pleased about getting the three points, despite his hat-trick going some way to defeating Everton.
The under-21s attacker scored three of the old gold’s five against the Toffees on Monday evening, with Farmer completing his treble within the opening 45 minutes. It was a dominant display from the Wolves youngsters who were ruthless in front of goal, on an evening where points were important in the context of PL2 survival. Farmer has pinpointed a fast and intense start as the catalyst to being able to put their opponents to the sword, while admitting that the bonus of scoring three of his own goals gave a confidence boost going into the second half.
On starting the game well
“It was a great performance. I thought we started the game really well and got an early goal, which set us up for the rest of the game.
“I thought we carried that intensity through for the rest of the game and that got us the win in the end.”
On making the most of the fast start
“We spoke about it in the last few games. Some games we’ve started fast and others we haven’t which has shown.
“We were able to do that today and the result shows that it helped us.
“Any game you start well you always feel you’ve got a better chance of winning the game. It did feel good, we were on top and just a matter of time before we had a clear-cut chance.”

On his three goals
“I can just about remember them. At the end of the day, I put them away but they were team goals.
“They weren’t created by me, they were just finished by me. The three points is all that matters really.”
On being the side with the lead
“The goals always help. When we played them the other week and they had a 3-0 lead, it was tough for us.
“We knew going in at half-time that when we come back out, we knew how they were feeling.
“We knew that if we kept that intensity and pressure up, we would win the game.”
On the confidence boost scoring a hat-trick gives you
“It was massive. You know you’ve got the beating of the defenders and the goalkeeper. You know that’s going through their minds when I’ve got the ball and it just gives you more confidence and an edge over them.
“I think I’ve had a few chances in the last few weeks and haven’t quite put them away, which hasn’t really helped the team.
“Tonight, when it mattered, I put them away and I’m glad we got the three points which is all I’m thinking about.”
On taking the momentum into Fulham
“We’ve got a bit of momentum and hopefully we can take that, have a good training week and take it into Fulham next week.
“Hopefully we keep climbing up the table and make sure we’re safe.”
