James Collins’ side are looking for their first win in three after struggling to break down Sunderland at Aggborough last week, despite being the stronger of the two sides.
Jack Scott was heavily involved in the action, striking the corner of crossbar and post with a header, before setting up his attacking teammates with chances they were unable to take. The draw against the Black Cats allowed Burnley to push Wolves down to fifth place, but the young gold and black side have at least one game in hand over their play-off rivals.
Having beaten Wolves 4-1 at Aggborough back in late November, Middlesbrough were pushing Leeds United at the top of the table, but since that match, Boro went on a winless run which lasted until earlier this month when they earned a 2-1 win against Newcastle United.
They followed that up with a 1-0 victory over West Bromwich Albion last week, so will be in high spirits heading into Monday afternoon’s contest.

WHAT THE BOSS THINKS
On Middlesbrough test
“Middlesbrough were one of the two best teams we’ve played this season,” Collins said. “After our game, they went on that losing run, and we went on a bit of a decent run, but I thought they were excellent at our place.
“We know it will be a tough game, although the teams will be slightly different than they were earlier in the season as one or two of ours have gone on loan, as have one or two of theirs, so it will be an almost totally different game, but one we’re looking forwards to.
“They’ve won their last two, including a local derby against Newcastle, so they’re a really strong team in this division and I know they’re going to be up there fighting come the end of the season.
“There are seven games or so to go now and it’s a really exciting game.”
On the injuries to Carty and Sondergaard
“Conor’s got an ankle injury which was as bad as we first thought, and he’s got a bit of a problem there, so he’ll be out for a while.
“He’s had a problem with it before and he tends to heal quicker than the suggested time, so hopefully that will be the same again, although he’ll be missing for a few weeks.
“Andreas was a challenge that looked quite innocuous at first but it did more damage to his stomach that we thought it had. He had to go to hospital and have an operation, which is a scary thing.
“We wish him all the best, it’s all gone well for him there, and hopefully he’ll recover quickly, but that’s likely to be his season done with the under-23s.
“It’s disappointing, but that’s part of football. What it does do is give others an opportunity. Joe Young’s been sitting patiently on the sidelines and this is time for the other goalkeepers to take their chance.”
