The Scottish-born Welsh under-21 international has even made his first-team bow for the club during this campaign, coming off the bench in Wolves’ Carabao Cup defeat to Aston Villa, as well as being called up to a senior Wales training camp by Ryan Giggs in the summer.
But the 18-year-old, who made his 11th appearance of the season for the under-23s in Monday night’s 1-1 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion, knows he’s still got more to learn this season.
On his first season with the under-23s
“It’s been good. I was out for the first six weeks or so of the season, which was a bit frustrating and a bit of a set-back, but since I’ve been back in the team, it’s been good.
“I’m still learning game by game and every game is a big game – we’ve been playing not only against the best youth teams in the country, but also Europe this season, so I’m glad it’s gone the way it has as it’s been a big learning experience for me.
“Getting back into the team, having to fight my way in, and playing a few different positions – but it’s all good for my development, so I think it’s gone well.”
On fourth consecutive 1-1 draw
“We were actually talking about that straight after the game. It’s just frustrating because the games were all tight and we always keep it tight defensively.
“The fourth 1-1 in a row is frustrating because it’s always about tight margins, if we could have taken a couple of chances or just done a little bit more, we could have won all of those games.
“The points do make a big difference if we would’ve won, but we know that on the positive side, we’re not losing a lot of goals, we’re defending well as a team, and if we can just improve in attack, we will turn those points into wins.”
On a strong start to the game
“We started the game really well, obviously we got to a really good start and scored early on. Playing a different shape and with different players to normal, I thought we handled it really well. The whole team came together, and you could feel that on the pitch.
“The changes felt good, to be honest. We gelled really well and even with people playing out of position, they did really well, did their job for the team, and they showed their quality.
“We’ve got a lot of really good players, who are flexible, can play in multiple positions, and players who haven’t been playing a lot in recent weeks came in and did really well, especially considering the circumstances.”
On areas to improve
“It was a good Brighton team, but every team in our league is going to be good and they’ve all got quality.
“On their goal, there are a few things we could point out, but they’re little things. Everyone is bound to make mistakes or bad decisions at times – it’s development football – but we’ll work on it in training as there’s just little things that we can improve on.”
