Salford City vs Wolves | U21 Match preview

Wolves under-21s have the chance to make it into the last 16 of the Leasing.com Trophy on Tuesday night as a Wolves side takes on Salford City for the first time in the club’s history.

After making it through Northern Group G thanks to a victory over Carlisle United and a penalty shootout bonus point against Morecambe, Mark Kennedy’s development team now face Salford at Peninsula Stadium in round two.

As the under-23s, Wolves are on a four-match unbeaten run since losing to League One Blackpool in their final first round match, which saw the team secure second spot in the Group G table and set up Tuesday night’s fixture.

Salford’s form has gone in the opposite direction to Wolves’ since topping Northern Group C with two wins from two, beating both Tranmere Rovers and Aston Villa under-21s, but have now found themselves without a win from their previous three matches.

Tickets for the 7.45pm kick-off on Tuesday 3rd December are priced at £10 for adults, £5 for concessions, while under-5s go free, and can be bought through Salford City by clicking here.

WHAT THE PLAYERS THINK

Defender Dan Csoka has given his thoughts on Wolves’ first ever meeting with Salford City as he looks ahead to Wednesday evening's tie.

On preparing for the Ammies

“It’s been such a busy few weeks, but we had a recovery day on Thursday before time off on Friday before the preparation began for Salford.

“I’m really looking forwards to playing against Salford because I played against Blackpool in the group stages and it was a really physical game and a real taste of mens football.”

On facing senior EFL opposition

“You learn more about the game when you are playing against senior players. It’s not like an under-23 game, it’s really physical and you learn more about how teams play when going against League One and League Two teams.

“I’m looking forward to playing against Salford in the competition but hope we can get through to the next round and play as many games as we can against these teams.”
