Wolves face PSG, Athletic Club and Liverpool in International Cup

Wolves under-23s will face PSG, Athletic Club and Liverpool in their first foray into competitive European football as part of the 2019/20 Premier League International Cup.

Following the success of the 2018/19 season, in which Rob Edwards’ side were promoted to the top flight of development football after securing the Premier League 2 Division 2 title, their title win also sealed a place in the International Cup.

Created by the Premier League five years ago, the competition – which was won last year by Bayern Munich – provides players in England’s Category One academies with the opportunity to match themselves against fellow elite European youth footballers in a competitive environment.

The International Cup divides 24 teams – 12 from England and 12 invited sides from across Europe – into six four-team groups, each including two European clubs and two Premier League 2 sides. Each club plays each of their group opponents once, with all matches to be played in the UK, either at the home grounds of the Premier League clubs or neutral venues.

Wolves are one of three sides making their debut in the competition this season, alongside Monaco and Blackburn Rovers.

The under-23s have been drawn in Group E for their inaugural appearance in the tournament, where they will play Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain and Athletic Club Bilbao at home, with fixture dates to be announced in due course.
