Aston Villa vs Wolves | U23 Match preview

Wolves under-23s are heading into the final straight of their Premier League 2 season, with three games to go, as they try to maintain their place at the top of the Division 2 table.

Rob Edwards’ side will be hoping to end their season on a high, knowing victories in their remaining trio of matches will secure automatic promotion to the top-flight of development football.

However, Wolves will have to be at their best to overcome three of the top teams in the division, starting with a trip to Walsall on Monday night as they attempt to take all three points from West Midlands rivals Aston Villa.

The two sides ended up all square in November when they played out a 0-0 draw at Telford earlier in the season, with Wolves also hoping to bounce back following a 2-0 defeat to Newcastle United last time out.

WHAT THE BOSS THINKS

On finish to the season

“The players are looking forward to three crucial games as we hope to end our season on a high. Due to their performances so far this season, the players have put themselves put themselves in a position where they’re up there to be shot at.

“Newcastle did that last week and we’ve got to make sure now that it doesn’t happen again and hopefully we will learn from that.

“The players are up for it and we all want to achieve something this year. It’s been good so far, five players making their debuts in cup games – and credit to the first-team staff for giving the players an opportunity – we’ve had players on the bench in the Premier League and we’ve won some football matches, in a good way as well.

“We’ve had a good season so far, and it will be great to get over the line and finish it off, but there’s still a long way to go, there’s still 270-plus minutes to play.”
