Wolves’ Academy Player of the Year, who has been with the club for more than ten years, has put pen to paper on a deal which will secure his future until the end of the 2021/22 season.
After signing the new contract, the 18-year-old said: “It’s a great relief. It’s nice of the club to do that for me as it shows they believe in me.
“I’ve been at this club for a long time now and Wolves have put a lot of trust in me. When I had my injury at 14 I was worried that it could be my career over. But I’m grateful for the belief Wolves had in me, and the commitment they’ve shown to push me through and get me to where I am now.
“At this stage I’ve just got to keep working hard, keep learning and keep grabbing those opportunities, but it proves that if you do have those set-backs, with a bit of belief, hard-work and determination, anything can happen.”
After making 11 appearances for Wolves under-23 side so far this campaign and being named on the bench for the senior side’s Carabao Cup ties, Giles is hoping to prove his worth as he builds on his experiences with the first team on their pre-season trip to Switzerland.
“My aim is to play for the first team,” he said. “I think that’s every boy’s dream; to play for their club, to play for the first team, but for me I’ve just got to keep doing what I’m doing and keep grabbing those opportunities and play as many games as possible.
“Whether that’s with the under-23s or if there is a cup game I can hopefully be involved in, but whatever the opportunity is, I’ve just got to take it with both hands.
“Going away with the first team during pre-season was absolutely amazing and it was a great experience to be around the boys. To see the way they are playing and to learn off them, and they’ve given me a lot of advice which has developed me into a better player.”
Wolves under-23 boss Rob Edwards believes Giles has a big future ahead him, as long as he continues his development, adding: “I’m really pleased for Ryan, he’s a brilliant lad. I’m glad for both him and the football club that his future has been secured.
“At 18-years-of-age he’s no finished article, but he’s going in the right direction. His attitude is good, he’s always a smiling face around the place, and we just want him to keep doing what he’s doing.
“There’s still a long way to go, especially to get to the level that he wants to be at, but he’s someone who we feel, because of his attributes, has got a chance.
“I’m really pleased for him and for the club, and we’ve got to do our job now of trying to help him, but ultimately, it’s up to Ryan to work hard and forge his career.”
