Southampton v Wolves | U23 Match Preview

Hoping to extend their unbeaten league run to four matches and remain at the summit of the Premier League 2 Division 2 table, Rob Edwards’ under-23s head to Southampton tonight.

Wolves have been on a good run of recent form, claiming nine points in their last three PL2 and Premier League Cup matches – but all of the wins have come at the under-23’s home ground of New Bucks Head in Telford.

Currently sitting one point ahead of Manchester United and Aston Villa at the top of the table, Edwards’ side will be wary of heading back out on the road as their last defeat (as the under-21s) came in last week’s Checkatrade Trophy tie at Mansfield Town.

WHAT THE BOSS THINKS

On Southampton

We know it will be difficult. We watched their last couple of games against Villa and Reading and they were competitive. They’ve got some really good players; some good individuals.

They’re obviously well organised and well coached so they will provide us with a tough challenge, but one that if we play to our capabilities and our attitude and commitment is right, then we are more than capable of getting a result from.

On preparations

We’ve had a few lads away on international duty and a few have been with the first team, so yesterday was the first time we’ve been able to get the whole group to do some work together. But we’re looking forward to going in the league again.

Every game brings fresh challenges, but it will be good to play at St Mary’s. The players have dealt with the away games very well this season and we expect nothing different going into this one.
