The Under-23s took the lead against Stoke through Pedro Goncalves, but were forced to settle for just a point after the visitors tucked away a penalty with the final kick of the game.
Having not played for a month, Sellars wasn’t too downbeat and took the positives when speaking to wolves.co.uk post-match.
“To concede so late in the game is always disappointed but I also thought we deserved to win the game,” he explained. “We had large control of the game and Stoke didn’t cause us too many problems.
“I thought we had enough chances in good situations, where we should have done better.
“We had Stoke watched and spoke a lot about switching play against the diamond and I thought we did it well.”
Having seen their West Brom fixture postponed last time out, Wolves were forced to wait for their return from the Christmas break and Sellars felt it showed at times.
“We looked a bit rusty, like we hadn’t played for a while and it showed in the final third, with bits of combination play and the final pass.
“We got into some good situations and the final ball wasn’t quite there, however I thought the attitude was good, the fitness was good and overall I was really pleased.”
It was a terrific strike which put Wolves in front and Sellars has called on the young Portugese midfielder to produce moments of brilliance on a more regular basis.
“It was a great finish, he’s got that in his locker. He scored a brilliant goal against West Brom earlier in the season at Molineux.
“We probably need a bit more from him, but I thought he showed bits of quality today.”
The game was also Donovan Wilson’s final appearance for the Under-23s before his loan to Port Vale in League Two and Sellars believes the timing of the move is perfect.
“It’s a fantastic opportunity. I thought he showed his quality, his strength and his power today, and I think he now needs the challenge of men’s football, where I’m sure he’ll be successful.
“We’re changing, as we always do, people go out on loan but we’re happy with the squad we’ve got,” he added.
