Sellars Happy With Pre-Season Efforts

Scott Sellars believes that his Under 23s side are in good shape heading into the final week of pre-season.

The Under 23s have two pre-season friendlies against TNS and Barnsley before beginning their Premier League 2 campaign away to Blackburn Rovers on Monday 14th August (7pm) at Ewood Park.

The Under 23s boss says that attitude of his players has been outstanding, he says it’s now about getting as many minutes as possible for his players.

“Results-wise and physically, we feel we’re getting there,” Sellars began.

“We want them to get 90 minutes in to with the season coming up.

“Their attitude, wanting to work daily - we record physical stats, we’re not having to ask them to do any more - it’s all be outstanding.

“We went to Holland for our pre-season tour last year and I think from the point of view of getting to know them better, for 24 hours a day and them getting to know us better, it was really beneficial.

“We wanted to get in the key bits of physical work and tactical work - it was just a really good experience for us all to get together and start to build what we want to build for the season.

“We’ve got more games before the start of the season - we’ve got a big squad at the moment and we want to get everybody minutes.

“We had two competitive games on Tuesday, we play TNS on Saturday which will be a real challenge - I think they were unbeaten last year, so that will be a good test.

“And then we’ve got Barnsley as our last game on Tuesday.

“They're the games that we’re finishing pre-season on and then hopefully everyone is fit and ready.

“We hope that everyone will feel that they've had their opportunity to get some minutes so they're ready to take a place in the starting 11.”

It has this week been announced that Aaron Simpson would follow Aaron Hayden on loan to Telford FC, while Niall Ennis and Duckens Nazon have joined Shrewsbury Town and Coventry on loan respectively.

Sellars says that if the move is right, he is happy for his players to go out on loan.

“I think some of these boys are ready - hopefully at these friendlies, there will be scouts watching for the boys to go and get some first team game time.

“From our point of view, if we think it's the right loan move for them then they can go and if we don’t, they’ll stay here.

“The important thing is that players are playing every week.

“We’ll try and pick the loans where we think they're going to play and that’s the most important thing.”
