Hee Chan Hwang transferred his electric Wolves form in front of goal to the international stage this week as he played a key role in South Korea’s 6-0 demolition of Vietnam.
Hwang scored his country’s second goal before adding an assist for their fourth during the friendly fixture on an excellent afternoon for the forward.
But the Korean wasn’t the only member of Gary O’Neil’s senior squad in action yesterday, and wolves.co.uk is here to round up all which happened involving the Old Gold players during the final days play of the October international break.
Hee Chan Hwang | South Korea 6-0 Vietnam
Having starred for his country last week without getting his name on the scoresheet, Hwang was a dominant force once again as South Korea turned over Vietnam with ease on Tuesday afternoon. All six of Korea’s goals came from six different players after Min-Jae Kim opened the scoring in just the fifth minute. The Wolves man then added goal number two – in typical Hwang fashion – as he latched onto a through ball eight yards out before lashing his effort inside the far post. Following an own goal, it was Tottenham Hotspur’s Heung-min Son’s turn to get his goal and Hwang his assist, as the latter played a neat ball inside the penalty area to his fellow Premier League forward to finish cooly. As Hwang played a full 90 minutes for the first time this season – and his first since Wolves’ New Years Eve loss to Manchester United at Molineux last December – his country added two more to complete their rout, thanks to goals from Kang-in Lee and Woo-Yeong Jeong.
Santiago Bueno & Matheus Cunha | Uruguay 2-0 Brazil
Tuesday was another disappointing night in yellow for Cunha as the Wolves forward was unable to help Brazil to a much-needed victory in their World Cup qualification campaign away at Uruguay, as Santi Bueno’s side came away with the three points. The Old Gold defender is still searching for his first international cap since switching to Molineux in the summer, as he remained on the bench to see his country score twice through Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez and River Plate’s Nicolas de la Cruz to secure a win which lifts them above Brazil and into second place in the CONMEBOL standings. Cunha did feature for the final few minutes as he came on for Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior in the closing stages to earn his 11th senior Brazil cap, but the game was already beyond his country’s reach at that point.
Yerson Mosquera | Ecuador 0-0 Colombia
With a late cameo appearance in Colombia’s 2-2 draw against Santi Bueno’s Uruguay last week, fellow Wolves defender Mosquera was in from the start to earn his second senior cap on Tuesday night. The centre-back – currently on loan at FC Cincinnati in the MLS – played almost the whole game for Colombia, despite picking up a yellow card inside the opening 10 minutes, before being taken off with an apparent injury just moments before the final whistle. But during his time on the pitch, Mosquera put in a positive performance as he was played out of his natural position at right-back, with Colombia unlucky not to have claimed all three points after Liverpool’s Luis Diaz saw his penalty saved just after the hour mark, before Carlos Cuesta’s finish was ruled out by VAR for an offside in the build-up. The result leaves Colombia in fifth place in CONMEBOL’s 2026 World Cup qualification table – but just one point behind Uruguay and Brazil.
Elsewhere
Only one more Wolves man saw on-pitch action on Tuesday as Fabio Silva played the opening hour for Portugal under-21s in their Euros qualifier victory over Greece. The Portuguese were 1-0 up through Rodrigo Gomes’ goal when Silva was brought off and replaced by Tiago Tomas, before his side added a second from the penalty spot 10 minutes later. The win continues Portugal’s 100 per cent record in qualifying so far as they sit top of the Group G table. Boubacar Traore was also in contention for another senior cap for Mali yesterday after getting minutes under his belt in last week’s win over Uganda, but it wasn't to be for the midfielder. As his country faced a friendly with Saudi Arabia in Portugal, Traore was an unused substitute as Mali claimed a 3-1 victory.
