Julen Lopetegui insists the Wolves supporters could make the difference on Saturday as the old gold search for crucial back-to-back victories in the battle against the Premier League drop.
Last weekend Molineux was alive and Lopetegui’s players responded by battling to an invaluable victory over Chelsea, but the Spaniard now knows he’ll need an even bigger effort from his players and supporters this time around. Brentford arrive with an impressive season, and away record, under their belts, but Lopetegui believes a noisy Molineux backing the team at all moments could be the difference.
On having the full backing of Molineux
“It’s always key. Very important. We need them, they know that, and always the support is key for us, above all in the bad moments. To feel this energy and encourage the players to continue working in the bad moments is key. Of course, the spirit of the support from our fans, I am sure we’re going to have again.”
On how much it helps
“A lot. A lot. In each match you have a lot of mini matches. So, in the moments when maybe the opponents show they are overcoming you, this moment to have the support, the energy helps you to have a better answer. To make the last thought that maybe you are not going to arrive, all these key things are very important [to have support], I am sure the fans are going to help us.”
On work still to be done
“We are so far from our aim. We have to win a lot of points to achieve this aim. The rest of the team are fighting with us, this is true. You can talk about only the present and the only future we have is the next match. We are not thinking of other things, but to be ready against a very strong team in Brentford, one of the best teams away, so we have to be ready.”
On some impressive home results
“Always it’s important to be strong in your stadium, but away too. Each match is a challenge and a chance to win three points. We have put the focus on each match. Now we have one very important match in front of us, knowing the quality of the opponent, but also in the same way that we have to believe in us. Respect the opponent but believe in us and be ready to overcome them.
“For me, it’s a very big match Saturday, more important than Chelsea and more difficult than Chelsea for a lot of reasons. We have to be ready.”
