Lopetegui | 'It’s one point more for our aim'

Julen Lopetegui held mixed emotions following Friday’s draw at Fulham, but left focusing on another point being adding towards the overall target.

Wolves look the lead down in the capital as Pablo Sarabia finished a fine team move, but after they were unsettled by the injury to Matheus Cunha, Fulham struck to earn a point. Pleased with his side’s performance, particularly before the break, Lopetegui can see the continued shoots of recovery in his team, who thoroughly deserved the point they returned to the West Midlands with.

On a solid evening’s work

“We came here with the aim to win the match. I think we made a good match, with hard work. Overall, in the first half, we were good. It was a pity the second half, we had problems and had to force a change.

“I think we had more possession than them, but they scored with the first time they went to the goal – a very good goal, a good action. After, we tried to match them, they tried to match us, it was more or less balanced, but it was a pity because we came here thinking to win.

“I think it has been a good first half for us, pushing and pressing very well against Fulham, trying to match them and we had good chances. We scored, then it was a pity because we started the second half in a good way and they scored quickly after the injury to Cunha.”

On Sarabia’s goal

“It was good, and not because it’s Pablo Sarabia, because it’s our goal. The goals are the responsibility of all the team. Always the goals, you work on all the goals. We worked on them in a very good way, we worked hard. We scored and it’s not easy to score.”

On continuing to improve

“We have to do a lot of work, defensive and offensive. I think the first half we pressed them very well, they changed, and the goal was the first time they arrived in our box, after a break of five minutes with the injury of Cunha. These kinds of actions are sometimes key, but we have one point more, we have to focus on the next challenge and be ready.”

On moving in the right direction

“We are trying to win. It’s not easy, it’s the Premier League, it’s a challenge. This was a very tough match because all the teams are very good teams, good coaches and good players, and now we need points. Today we have one point more, we came here with the intention to get three, it was a pity because we did good things.

“It’s one point more, we have the need for a lot of points to get the aim to stay in the end out of the relegation zone. It’s going to be a hard and tough task, but we have one more point. We have to recover, we have an important and tough match in four days, so we have to be ready.”
