Campana’s Inter Miami loan turns permanent

Leonardo Campana has joined Inter Miami on a permanent basis following a hugely successful season on loan with the MLS club.

The Ecuadorian forward joined Wolves in January 2020 from his hometown club Barcelona SC, before cutting his teeth in Europe with temporary spells at Famalicao and Grasshopper Club Zurich.

During those loan moves, Campana found the back of the net a combined five times from 23 appearances as he got to grips with senior football on a new continent.

But it was in the USA where the 22-year-old grew most as a player. Campana moved to Miami 12 months ago and joined a club that had a large South American connection, helping him quickly settle into the team and the league.

Soon after becoming an Inter player – and having got off the mark for his new side against Austin FC – Campana was named MLS Player of the Week after netting a hat-trick against the New England Revolution.

The 2019 South American U20 Championship winner continued his fine form throughout the 2022 MLS season, as he helped Phil Neville’s side to the MLS Cup play-offs, before Miami were eventually knocked out by New York City FC.

Leading the line alongside Gonzalo Higuain, Campana finished his first season at the Herons as their second highest scorer, behind his Argentinian teammate, with 12 goals in all competitions and showed more than enough for the club to turn his loan move permanent ahead of the new 2023 MLS season, which begins in February.

Everyone at Wolves would like to wish Leo the very best of luck for his career and future.
