Boly on Arsenal, clean sheets and recovering from injury

Willy Boly has urged his Wolves teammates not to take Arsenal lightly when the Gunners arrive at Molineux on Saturday evening.

The domineering defender and his side have been in scintillating form following the Premier League restart, winning all three of their matches without conceding, and although Arsenal are winless against the old gold since Wolves returned to the top-flight last season, Boly – who has helped his team to seven clean sheets in the eight games following his return from injury – insists the hosts will not be taking another positive result for granted.

On approaching the visit of Arsenal

“We have the same confidence every game. We know that we have to work together to win the games and if we think a team like Arsenal will be easy, then we’re going to lose this game.

“We know that, so we have been working very hard during the week and hopefully if we don’t suffer a goal, then we can get a draw or maybe win.”

On a run of clean sheets

“When we get on the pitch, this is the first target. We say, ‘Ok, let’s not suffer a goal’, because after, we know we have the quality in front.

“If you have 20 minutes left in the game and it’s 0-0, we know we have players on the bench with a lot of quality. There is a lot of space with both teams wanting to win and when there is a lot of space, for some players it’s very good. We have Adama, Neto, and they are very fast players.

“Last week, Adama got in the game and he changed the game. But if we don’t suffer a goal, we know the victory will be very close.”

On coming back stronger from injury

“First of all, I trust myself, I trust the medical staff as well, they are very, very good and all the time I was near to the team.

“For example, when they went to play away against Arsenal, I was in London with them in the hotel, and although I was doing some treatment, I was always around the team, and this was very important for me.

“Sometimes they were saying that I was going to have to work very hard because the team is doing good and, ‘If you come back and you are not fit, you will stay on the bench, so you have to work very hard,’ so I did and I came back and played.”

On defensive record improving when he plays

“I think the fact that when we built the team three years ago I was first, so the team with me is not about me, it’s because I’ve had a lot of time working with the team.

“When I’m in the team, the team plays a little bit more with confidence, but I don’t think that’s about my qualities, it’s because I know my teammates and it’s easier for them to play with me and easier for me to play with them as well.”

On knocking on the door of the top four

“We don’t think about that, we don’t talk about this between ourselves during the week. We just say, ‘This week we have Arsenal, so we have like this, we have to play like this, we’re going to be in trouble if we do this, etc.’

“Obviously, there could be a possibility that at the end when we play against Chelsea we have to fight for the Champions League, but now, we know anything could happen, so we’re just going to play and enjoy.”
