Straight after the final whistle blew on the 2-0 win over West Ham United on Saturday, in a game which Raul Jimenez and Pedro Neto got the goals, the captain was already switching his attention to the Premier League battle with the Cherries, but was adamant that the players’ thoughts were not drifting any further than Wednesday night.
On thinking about where Wolves could finish in the league table
“Honestly, the focus for us in now Bournemouth. It might be a cliché, and people talk about it all the time, ‘Can we do that, can we do this’, but the focus before this game [West Ham] was about this game, it was about West Ham.
“We put all our effort in this week about expecting what they would do. We knew it was going to be a tough game, the first game back. I thought we managed the game fantastically well and you see the boys coming off the bench, so to have the impact that they did is fantastic. I think that shows itself the togetherness within the squad.
“So, are we talking about anything in the future? Not really, because the most important thing for us now is to go back to Molineux – which we’re going to love – on Wednesday and hopefully look forward to that.”

On the impact of substitutes Traore and Neto at West Ham
“I’m glad they don’t [come on against him], I panic when I’m in training against them, never mind in a game!
“But it showed the togetherness when the boys come on doing that. If you’re looking at our team at the start of the game and you don’t see Adama Traore, I think you go, ‘Thank god for that.’ When you see him coming on when you’re knackered, it becomes hard.”
On Neto’s stunning volley
“It’s amazing. He’s amazing and he deserved it because of how hard he works. You ought to see the nick he’s come back in after lockdown, it’s amazing. His body fat’s down, his muscle mass [is up], everything, he’s worked so hard.
“You look at the goals he’s had took off him earlier in the season and it was disappointing when that happened, but to come on and affect the game like he did, and the technique of the volley, is amazing.
“We know he can do it, but you don’t expect him to do on a stage like that in the Premier League, but to do it, and rifle it past the keeper, it’s brilliant.”
