Thursday's performance a reference for Nuno

Thursday night’s performance over RCD Espanyol has given Wolves a reference when preparing for Sunday’s return to the Premier League, insists Nuno Espirito Santo.

Wolves impressed on their way to a 4-0 success over the La Liga side and now have a quick turnaround ahead of the visit of Norwich City in the Premier League. The Canaries sit bottom of the league, but have attracted plaudits for their style of play this season, so Nuno insists his team must reach the level of Thursday night once against on Sunday.

On facing Norwich

“Our reference is Thursday, so we have to improve on Thursday. Good or bad runs are running by momentum and we don’t live by momentum, we live by competing.

"If you have good momentum, it doesn’t ensure you’re going to play good. At the same time, if you have bad momentum, it doesn’t mean that cannot change. Take that apart and focus on the game.

"Sunday’s game is very tough because Norwich are a very good team with very good players. They play with possession and create many problems, this is our focus, to try to compete well.”

On managing the games

“It’s always a challenge when you are competing like we have since July, this kind of schedule, always tight. We have good routines and character of players; they really respect themselves and for sure are going to be ready for Sunday.

“It’s always a challenge because we’re going to face a quality team with very good players. Let’s try to be as organised as Thursday, if possible better."

On Traore’s substitution on Thursday

“It’s new solutions. At that moment we decided the game needed new solutions. You can change position of the players or bring new players on. It was based on that.

“Every time you try to change, you expect this energy will come from the bench and it was clear that the team improved, so it was good for us. In that moment we decided that the game needed a new solution, a player with different characteristics, we didn’t think about Sunday. We think about Norwich right now.”
