Nuno praises "beautiful goals" in Espanyol win

Nuno Espirito Santo praised the “beautiful goals” his team scored as Wolves put four past RCD Espanyol in the Europa League on Thursday night.

Wolves are in the driving seat in their last 32 tie thanks to a Diogo Jota hat-trick and Ruben Neves stunner at a noisy Molineux. While delighted with his team’s organisation which led to another clean sheet, Nuno was delighted the performance, particularly after the break.

On Jota’s hat-trick

“I’m happy for him, delighted because when a player scores three goals, it means he’s helped the team a lot. He did a good job, not only offensively, also covering, always organised. Neves also scored a beautiful goal – we took advantage of the talent of the players.”

On a good performance

“It was a good performance. First-half not so good, we didn’t create a lot of problems in possession and didn’t recover in the right areas. We adjusted second-half, beautiful goals, it was a good evening.

“I think we competed well. Of course, the result is the consequences of what we did. We created many chances in the second-half and we were clinical in those moments. This is what we want, sometimes you create more and don’t score.

“For me, important is the oranisation and clean sheet. Defensively we did really well, everything starts from there, then let the players develop their talent up the pitch. Happy with the consistency of the team.”

On not looking ahead

“Now we have a couple of days to play against Norwich, we have to rest and recover well. We’ll keep the routines and compete well on Sunday, then we’ll think about the second leg. Football constantly teaches me that it’s never over.”

On changing shape

“It was a decision. We decided to go with another player in midfield, Adama was trying to do good things. We have to always think that the games needs new solutions and new players bring energy.”
