The captain has enjoyed Wolves’ ‘amazing’ run to the competition’s round of 32, which will see the La Liga side visit Wolverhampton, and although Coady knows there is still a long way to go if his side are to emulate the illustrious history of the club, he insists his teammates will continue to take each game as it comes and not look too far ahead of themselves.
On European nights at Molineux and abroad
“They’re amazing. Honestly, it was something that we said last season that if we had the opportunity to get it, we wanted to make the most of it.
“You go back to the start and we went to Torino and places like this, they’re brilliant places, and it’s something we wanted to embrace, but I think the supporters have done it as well; the way they make Molineux, not just on the European nights, but cup games, Premier League games, it’s amazing the way they push us.
“It’s a massive game to see where the club is now and where we’ve come to the last couple of years and obviously what the manager and the staff have done to the club has been fantastic, so I think we’ll embrace it again because it’s another game where we’ll want to compete as much as possible.
“It’s the same for every game, you don’t single out one competition in terms of what you want to do well in, it’s another game that we want to compete in and improve, and hopefully we’ll be ready come tomorrow night because it’s going to be another really tough game for us.”
On visiting different cities with Wolves
“When you go to games, we don’t go to take in all the sights, you’re only really focused on making sure you’re ready for the Thursday night. They’re fantastic experiences, and we all said that at the start of the season that we’re going to enjoy it as much as possible.
“When we travel away, or if we’re playing here at Molineux, you make sure you’re ready. All you’re thinking about is the game, because that’s all we’ve worked on all week, to make sure we’re ready come the Thursday and whoever we’re coming up against.
“Each game has been different each time, but they’ve all been brilliant experiences. It’s been something we’ve enjoyed up to now, but we don’t want to look back on it and just think that we enjoyed this season, we want to compete as well as we can.
“I think that’s something we have done up till now and that’s something we can look back on and be proud, but also look towards tomorrow’s game, how tough it’s going to be and make sure we’re ready for a real battle, because that’s what it’s going to be.”
On having a long way still to go
“We’ve not achieved anything yet, but that was the same when we started this journey. It was something where there were always hurdles every game you play, but you don’t set out which games you want to do well in.
“We take it game by game, we’ve done that for two and a half years now, since the manager came in, and that will never, ever change because it’s the way we work, it’s the philosophy we use as a team and as a club and it’s important we take it a game at a time now.
“The next game is tomorrow and it’s a great game for us and one we’re really looking forwards to.”
On Wolves’ illustrious European history
“When you become part of this football club, it’s something everyone listens to, you hear about, but I think it’s important we look at ourselves – what we want to do this season and what we want to do tomorrow night.
“We don’t want to look too far ahead, it’s not something like ‘we want to do this, we want to do that’, we’ve never done that. We know about it, we know the history behind Wolves, but we want to make sure we do it right ourselves tomorrow night.”
