Nuno proud of growing process

Nuno Espirito Santo insists the performance against Liverpool proves his team’s growing process is continuing.

Wolves pushed the runaway league leaders all the way and, after Raul Jimenez pulled them level, the hosts looked on course for a well-deserved point. The Reds struck late to earn all three points, but Nuno was proud of what he saw from his team, as they pushed their visitors all the way.

On a performance to be proud of

“We performed well. Defensively we were well-organised, we blocked a lot of situations and we played well. We created chances, got to a draw at the momentum was there. We were facing a very good team, but I am very happy with the boys.

“I’m happy when we perform well, no matter who we have in front of us. Today we faced a fantastic team and manager, and this is the standards that we want. We want to compete. We had moments of good game, it’s a growing process, it takes time and we are on.”

On what changed at the break

“We spoke like we do all half-times. It’s our job to try to find the solutions, try to help the players find the right spaces, adjusting the team. Sometimes it goes well, sometimes it doesn’t. It’s our work to manage the game.

“We created some problems to find the lines and, when we recovered, we looked good on the ball. It was a beautiful stadium, with our fans behind the team, everything was good. We had the momentum of the second-half, always there, and created a lot of situations, so we keep on going.”

On a statement performance

“It says a lot of things, lots of games in the Championship and last season, what we’re trying to do this season, and what we’re trying to do for the future. It’s a growing process that takes time and patience, but I think we are in the right way, so we keep on going, working and searching for the details for next week.”

On coming back stronger

“We’re going to have a couple of days off and we go again, start preparing for the next one. It’s going to be very tough, so we have to keep on going and grow stronger.

“We must defend better at the set piece, improve on situations, moments where we had chances to go, but we took too much time or had too many touches of the ball.”
